Coming from Melbourne, this is the kind of small Asian restaurant you expect – but rarely find – in Canberra. It blends good-humoured waitstaff and non-feral décor with excellent ‘modern Asian’ food. The restaurant is a manageable size – seats maybe 25 – and has a tasteful, simple and colourful ambience, though like most Canberran restaurants the lighting is probably too bright.
Mains come in at around $18-$20. We had the beef rendang (tender, melts in mouth), 20 chilli lamb curry (v. hot but good), and the tofu stir-fry (good – bit limp, but maybe that’s just tofu).
The two entrees were ordered were particularly outstanding – the calamari was a perfect, crispy and non-oily golden, and the duck rolls fresh and clean.
Something to watch out for are the mains sizes – this isn’t one of those Asian restaurants where one between two usually suffices and two between three is gushing food. The portion sizes are more predicated on an assumption that each will have entree & main, which probably makes the prices slightly overdone, but still a good option.
